Chimney Sweeping to Remove Creosote

Creosote is a smoke byproduct that forms in chimney flues when wood fireplaces are used. It can be sticky, flakey or solid, depending on the length of time it’s been in your chimney and there’s no way you can avoid creating this substance when using your fireplace.

You can, however, reduce the likelihood of a chimney fire by having our certified technicians remove creosote from your chimney flue. This job requires a variety of chimney equipment, such as sweep rods, brushes, scrapers and solvents to safely clean your chimney.

1. You hear the sound of rumbling, like a freight train

2. You hear an odd clicking or tapping noise

3. Dark, dense smoke is coming from either end of your chimney

If you notice any of these signs, call 911 and extinguish the fire in the fireplace if it’s safe to do so.

Solving Drafting Issues

In some cases we need to perform a “whole house pressure testing” to determine the root cause of draft problems.

MORE COMMON CAUSES CAN INCLUDE:

When your fireplace isn’t drafting well and smoke is backing up into your home, the problem often stems from debris in your flue. Leaves and twigs from nearby trees as well as the nests and debris of small animals and dead animals can cause smoke to back up.

A smoky fireplace is no fun, but even worse is carbon monoxide, which is present in smoke. Invisible and odorless, carbon monoxide is known to be potentially fatal when inhaled by people and pets. Our chimney sweep crew will remove any drafting obstructions we find in your flue.

If your chimney cap is too small, this can also effect your proper drafting.

To prevent future obstructions, we recommend having an appropriately sized chimney cap with a spark arrestor installed. This will keep the junk out while keeping any sparks contained.
