How often and when should I get my fireplace checked?

A good rule of thumb:

• Having a sweep and inspection performed after burning a cord of wood
• having your chimney inspected on an annual basis.
• When changing the fireplace: IE installing a wood or gas insert or installing a gas log set
• When doing any remodeling or upgrades
• After an Earthquake

The benefits of servicing your fireplace on a regular basis:

• Reduces the risk of a chimney fire.
• Minimizes the amount of soot/ creosote buildup in the flue.
• Indicates minor repairs before they become major issues.
• Ensures that your fireplace is up to code and safe for your family to utilize.
• Increases the efficiency of the fireplace

Just like your car and your body you need to have expert exam it to keep it in good running order.

A chimney professional who is certified by NCSG, GSCSG, and/or FIRE would be your best bet at knowing if there is a potential problem.

Certified chimney professionals are knowledgeable about all the codes and the structure for your chimney.

When is the best time to have my chimney Swept/inspected??

You can have your chimney swept anytime; however, it is best to have this service performed in the spring or early summer. If any issues are identified, they may be corrected prior to the burning season. In the fall and winter months we are often booked out for serval weeks. Sometimes we are schedule 6 weeks or more during this time of the year. Booking early is key if you don’t want to wait.
